Couldn’t help but record the sorry state of Lowfield Street, and Dartford Council’s pathetic attempt to cheer the place up with a hanging basket of flowers. The whole place is in desperate need of redevelopment, but whether it will be successful, is anybody’s guess right now.
Back in 2004, Dartford Council put forward some plans which were controversial, and over 500 people turned up to have their say.
Dr Howard Stoate MP had this to say “This is an ill-conceived and poorly designed application that will have a devastating impact on our park and the viability of Dartford’s existing retail centre…” in 2005.
The artist’s impressions seem to make a huge leap from the reality. I even wonder if they ever actually visited the site before drawing up this fiction.
As of July 2009, CABE publish this: http://www.cabe.org.uk/design-review/lowfield-street
Meanwhile, Dartford gets shabbier and less appealing.
