Having just recently joined Dartford & District Photographic Society, I’ve only entered a couple of competitions with them, although I’ve known some of their members and their work for a little while, and their standard is high. Last night was the final club competition of the season, a projected digital image on the subject of “Action Sport”. Sports doesn’t figure greatly in the club repertoire, as its a fairly specialist area. Each member could submit just two images, and I think there were about 20 in all. I am so pleased that one of my “footie” pictures was picked as the winner. Not only that, but at the end of the evening they gave out the awards, various shields, cups and assorted trophies. So my digital image won the President’s Cup, and it now sits proudly on the sideboard.

A fair tackle, winner of the Presidents Cup 2009
Some commented that they didn’t like the slant, and that the horizon should be straight. I deliberately rotated the image to give a more dynamic angle to the tackle. I think it adds to the action. Obviously the judge thought so too.
