So we had some snow, seems like everyone running a public service has cut costs by not gritting surfaces. Sod their customers, it seems. A picture from last night’s chaos at Charing Cross.
Hardly any trains, either cancelled or running late. Caught one eventually, slow as anything. London Bridge was apparently closed as platforms were just too full of people struggling to get home. Still, my journey was somewhat mitigated by my iPod – listening to, appropriately, Snow Patrol !!
The platforms at Charing Cross were pretty well deserted, but the concourse was bursting at the seams. Seems South Eastern are completely unable to cope. They announced that Tuesday they would be running a ‘Saturday’ service, i.e. two trains an hour instead of three. Some sort of sick joke.
I could hardly believe that my station footbridge had not been gritted at all during yesterday’s weather. Steps were iced over, it was like an ice rink. I managed to negotiate it by clinging on to the hand rail, but slipped outside while attempting to walk home. The road adjacent to the station was impassable due to the ice.
