A bit delayed in looking at these images from a jujitsu martial arts seminar held in Dartford on 21 March at Dartford Ju Jitsu Club. Just a couple of one of the senior instructors, John Plumbridge, a judo veteran, showing the assembled how to perfect the techniques.
And another showing a different martial arts throw
Martial arts is one of my longstanding favourite activities. Its not really ‘sport’, but a combative training program where students work with each other learning how to do a throw and how to break fall from it safely. Its a two-way learning curve. There is a black belt at the end of a number of years focussed training, and as someone once said, getting your black belt means you’ve learned how to break fall! Its a tricky activity to photograph unless set up in a studio setting. Getting the timing, angles and focus to come together means several takes. In fact I had to ask the instructor to slow the technique down because the frame rate on my camera couldn’t quite keep up!
Look up the Kendo post for more on martial arts.
