A little play on words, forgive me. A temporary display (25 June – 4 July) Dragons of the Air by the University of Plymouth. There’s a video on the BBC website with details of the installation. They are meant to be life-size. One is the size of a spitfire airplane (and someone has put roundels on the wings). I ambled down to the South Bank after hearing about them on the news. I was a bit surprised that most of the commuters walking under them on their way from Waterloo to work actually took very little notice of them, looming above, swooping as if attacking prey or coming into land.
Come on, folks. Don’t just look at your feet as you walk to work, raise your eyes and look around you!
It was a bit difficult to show the scale of these models. I took a wide angle lens to capture the flyers, and took this one of the giant on its nest. It looks frighteningly realistic – and I’m glad they’re extinct. Imagine the size of the poop from that landing on your head!
