You may notice that some of the images are watermarked with ‘Sportshotz‘. This is my new website devoted to sports photography. Please visit me and tell me what you think. Its been a long time in the making, and there’s still some things to ‘tweak’. I hope to be able to add new images over time, particularly since I will not be able to post the Dartford FC shots for the foreseeable – although I am now ‘officially’ the Club Photographer.
With the imminent start of the new season and promotion to the Blue Square South League, I shall not be able to post my photos in the future. This is because of the FA rules that govern use of imagery at certain levels of the games. In the meantime, I post a few images from the recent ‘friendly’ between Dartford FC and Millwall FC. The game, not surprisingly, went Millwall’s way with 2 goals in the first half. That’s not to say that Dartford didn’t make some valiant attempts at goal, all thwarted, regrettably.
I noticed that even though its not yet August, the evening kick off at 19.45 means that the light is already going fast, particularly if its an overcast evening, as was yesterday. When the sun is setting it casts a long, low light over the pitch which makes shooting to the west-ish end very difficult. The floodlights were on before half time, and I had to boost the ISO on the camera and lower the shutter speed to capture anything like a reasonably well exposed image. Its a challenge, and I was quite pleased with some of the the shots. Unfortunately, I chose to position myself behind the Millwall goal, on the gamble that Dartford would score at least one goal. Most of the action turned out to be at the other end of the pitch and my lens just doesn’t reach that far. So I moved, hoping to capture some mid-field action. Its always a gamble that you’re in the right place at the right time. There were no dramas, an injury or two, a yellow card. Not bad for Millwall.
The week previous, there was another ‘friendly’ between Dartford FC and Southend, or Sowf-eind as its pronounced in the local dialect.
Dartford have a number of new players for the new season, so I am trying to capture them in action.
The first pre-season match was against Leatherhead. Again, the light wasn’t as favourable as you might expect in July.
