Levi Roots, of Reggae Reggae sauce fame, was at Waterstones in Bluewater this lunch time to promote his latest book “Food for Friends” and sign some copies for the waiting public. Levi Roots’ real name is Keith Valentine Graham. He is a musician, chef and multi-millionaire, since appearing on Dragons Den and receiving £50k in investment from Richard Farleigh and Peter Jones after a novel singing pitch. Sainsbury’s now stocks his jerk sauce that he’d been making and selling at the Notting Hill Carnival since 1991 from his Grandmother’s ‘secret’ receipe. He was very quiet, a bit reserved, but with a nice smile, with dreadlocks and an expensive suit. There weren’t too many people about for the signing, as when I photoed Nigella Lawson. Perhaps because this was a weekday in August there were fewer people about.
I have never had the opportunity to visit the Caribbean or taste Caribbean food, but it looked nice in the book. Perhaps I’ll have an opportunity to try it one day.
