I always see the evening matches played under floodlights as an even bigger challenge. A recent non-league friendly game attracted a small number of supporters which was a shame, but additionally the extra perimeter lights were not lit making the challenge even harder.
You can see the pools of light on the pitch and the dark stands on the far side.
The resultant camera settings, including high ISO (3200) makes obtaining any sort of quality picture very difficult indeed.
Now that the days are getting shorter and the football season has a long way to go, there will be plenty of opportunities to practice low-light action photography!
