On Tuesday, Mayor Boris unveiled a giant clock in Trafalgar Square for the 500-day countdown to the London Olympics. Provided by Omega, it proved unreliable in the first day. If that is an omen for the rest of the organisation, heaven help us!
Martial arts is a particular passion of mine, and I went along to the Dartford Judo club, as they were putting on their on tribute to the 500 day countdown. Five Hundred judo players, you might think. Not quite. Judo celebrity players signing autographs, you might think. Not quite. What we actually got were about sixty junior level kiddies who had supposedly rehearsed making the figure 500 with whom it took absolutely ages to get them assembled into something that vaguely looked liked a number. I know from experience how difficult it is to get that number of kiddies to line up in straight lines at the end of a class, never mind attempt something like this! Oddly, none of the instructors seemed interested, most just stood around getting in the way of the shot until asked to move. Well, not an iconic picture to remember an historic moment, but there it is.
I was pleased to see that at least the News Shopper picked this event up.
I didn’t get a copy of that paper for that week, so I’ve no idea if they ran the story in hard copy. Perhaps someone could let me know?
