An FA Cup Qualifying Round game against league neighbours Forest Green Rovers, Nailsworth in Gloucestershire.
About three hours by coach around the M25 and down the M4. Forest Green Rovers had in the past a club badge not dissimilar to FC Barcelona in design. However, its now been re-designed by Chairman Vince Dale, OBE, an eco-tycoon. They have lost their traditional black/white stripe shirts and now sport a nuclear green top. Apparently their Chairman wants the away colors to be pink – we’ll have to wait to see if they turn up in that outfit!
Eco-friendly and sustainable it may be, but there is something fundamentally wrong with a nation that happily likes to mess with its national flag and turn it to its own advantage. I’ve seen this done on the South Bank in London by some artist,
not to mention in other places and for other reasons, like Gay Pride. The Union Flag is RED, WHITE and BLUE, folks. I can’t imagine countries like France, Germany, Italy letting people get away with this sort of nonsense. Its been red, white and blue since 1801. Let’s keep it that way.
Forest Green Rovers have a solar powered mow-bot and fertilise the pitch with cow poo. There was a mild yet lingering aroma of manure around the place.
Its been well-publicised that the Chairman is a Vegan and has banned red meat from the Stadium.
Made me chuckle, our 150 supporters made lots of noise and re-worded some of the chants:
“Pie’n’mash, Pie’n’mash, Pie’n’mash” to the tune of “Here we go, here we go, here we go”
“Meat pie, Sausage roll, Come on Dartford, Gi’us a Goal”
not to mention the usual choruses of
“Tony Burman’s Part Time Army”.
The Rovers were ahead at half time, but a late equaliser means that a replay at Dartford is imminent. We still have 2 matches in the league against Forest Green Rovers. They will seem like old chums pretty soon! Whoever wins, they will meet Port Vale in the next round. Dartford played Port Vale in a previous season, and narrowly lost.
Gonna be some hard matches. Good luck, Chaps.
