Dartford’s second away game of the season, this time to Halifax Town in Yorkshire.
A long trip up the M11, A1 and M62 saw us arrive at the Shay Stadium around 1pm. The Shay stadium is a large sports venue, currently home to Halifax Town FC and Halifax RLFC. The capacity is (according to Wiki) 5,000 seated, 14,000 in all.
It looked a bit empty with around 1,200 spectators! Only 2 of the four stands were in use. The newest part, the East Stand, houses a very spacious entertaining space and the hosts provided a pre-match meal and a post-match meal for the players. A very friendly club is my impression. Just a coach load of Dartford supporters, a bit lost in the vastness of the stadium.
The media team were setting up in advance of the game
The weather was a mixture of cloud and sudden downpour. Dartford held their own in the first half, but the Shaymen were too strong and bullied players off the ball and one even seemed to think he was practising martial arts! Lots of elbowing and shirt-holding, most of which escaped the referee.
Looking forward to the rest of the season. The rest of the images from this game are on my zenfolio Sportshotz site.
